Computing info
-
My primary computer is an IBM ThinkPad T60, running the
Debian-based Devuan GNU/Linux
operating system, along
with LibreBoot for its
initialization program.
-
This laptop unfortunately only has a 32-bit processor at the moment,
and is something I hope to upgrade eventually.
-
Once upgraded, I plan on switching the computer to the normal upstream
Debian instead.
-
I mainly use a text console for convenience, but I will occasionally
use CDE and/or MATÉ. (Why
the accent)
-
Some of my most used programs are CVS(1), EMACS(1), Mutt(1), and of
course, TELNET(1) and SSH(1).
-
My web pages are maintained on this machine manually in HTML. Some
pages have CSS, such as those shared from others or generated from
TexInfo or LaTeX, but I think most of them look better without any
custom styles.
-
I read my emails on this machine using Mutt. I do not have much
experience with most other email client programs apart from Mutt,
Alpine, Thunderbird, and now ancient versions of Microsoft Outlook.
-
I have several web browsers that I use, typically with JavaScripts
blocked unless absolutely necessary. I continue to exhort web site
developers to license JavaScript code under a free license, such as
the GNU (A)GPL. No (client-side) JavaScript, especially for things
that can be done server-side, is even better yet. Less random code
running from random web sites makes technology better for everyone.
Long-Term Plans
-
Upgrade the IBM (Lenovo) ThinkPad T60 with a 64-bit processor.
-
Install a GNU(/Linux) distro on the IBM ThinkPad 755CX.
