Aperture Non-JavaScript Resources
Welcome. This project is designed to provide information that
already was publicly-available, without cost, but required
JavaScript. Many people have issues with the overuse of
JavaScript for things where static HTML and optional CSS would have
been more than sufficient, and this project aims to make the
information available to those people, as well as those who still use
JavaScripts but want easy-to-read and digest versions of the same
works. If you have ideas for things that are not already here, feel
free to e-mail
Anton to suggest adding them.
Other aperture users may
add their own resources here, but this has yet to happen.
By default, web browsers let any JavaScripts that get inserted into
a web site run, as if it belongs there. JavaScripts are just
software -- random and unchecked software that typically runs on your
machines whether you like it or not -- unless you decide to do
something such
as block nonfree
JavaScripts or more simply block
all JavaScripts. Blocking JavaScript does not automatically mean
that your computer is free from issues though. Phishing and spear
phishing attacks, vulnerable software, malicious software, man in the
middle attacks, and the like can all still happen without
JavaScripts. Want to disable JavaScript in your web
browser? One of these search results might be relevant to you.
There are also plugins
like GNU LibreJS
that block nonfree JavaScripts
and NoScript that block all
JavaScripts from loading. If you know of software and plugins
that work on mobile devices such
as smart
phones, please let Anton know. Another option is joining Nathan
in not owning a "smart phone", eliminating the drawbacks and risks of
them entirely without installing extra software.
